16-09-28

I did the HH bookkeeping yesterday. That's significant because it marks the third week in a row, because although it took me three hours instead of two, it also took me three hours instead of three days. It is current, and that makes me happy. I tended to some of the Family Administrative duties. I thought I got them all, and then headed to the office to do what I really want to do on Tuesday afternoons. I didn't get them all--- forgot about calling the dentist, among other things, but I did get to spend about an hour on CAC and an hour on MCEI. I felt so good when I had accomplished those things.

As it turned out, I made up the lost time when I got back from the PTA meeting. There were only about four parents there, so we all ended up as an officer of some sort. I am secretary.

Did I tell you that Tyler had a good day Friday? He said it was best day in school ever. At the end of the sex ed class, they gave out three backpacks, by random drawing. He didn't get one, but one of the leaders said, "Give him one, too, for best participation."

Beth called me yesterday, or was it Monday? and we had a nice chat.

We talked this morning and she said Zak sent her a picture of Sam looking very, very sad. She's in Houston visiting Rodney.

Beverly and I got to have a nice visit yesterday afternoon. I was asking her to be my backup for Tyler, and she said, "I noticed that Chelsea and JA's phone numbers are written real big on the calendar," and grabbing the sharpie, "Let's just put mine there, too."

When Papa and I were discussing our plans for the day, I asked Tyler about his and he said, "To be good so that I can go outside today." Talking about a thing they have going on at school.

The air conditioner in the shop is working! I think we're going to enjoy or evenings more, and spend less time around the t.v.

Heard from Angela, Brittany, Tori and Morgan.

September 27, 2016

So ... not joy journal. But I am used to a moment of writing before I start bookkeeping. I've just never tried this schedule before --- so no blog for the HH bookkeeping. Thus: this.

Not 7:35 --- 8:05. But, here, and getting started. On track for keeping things current, and I am happy about that.

16-09-26

So, we had Goodtimes yesterday, and four of the Big Girl Cousins showed up. They were a little later than the little kids, and settled in at the dining room table, playing cards, although Morgan spent most of the time sitting there and holding Jaden.

Willo accidentally popped Tyler's ballon, and was crying because of it. When he came in to the room, he noticed the popped pieces on the desk. Willo got up from my lap and went and told him that she had popped his balloon on an accident. He hugged her and then picked up.

She said that she is learning a lot in school. I asked her if she could spell my name, and she said that she couldn't but that she could spell her name.

Brittany, as she was leaving, "I needed my big girl cousins today."

Skyler walked in with a plate of dessert that she had found on Pintrest and made herself!

Morgan talking amir about Brandon and the runs things he can fix.

16-09-22

Beverly and I went to the island and walked on the beach for a couple of hours. It didn't seem like that long. It was right after lunch, so we didn't see a lot of birds, but we did see some. We also didn't see a lot of people, and that was nice.

I got a sweet Facebook message from Angela. "I was wondering what was going on but I know how busy the days get. I had messaged you about hummingbird and goodtimes and school and I was used to talking to you even it is just a little bit everyday. Then I started to suspect our phones were sabotaging us."

Tyler took care of my tea kettle for me, even going ahead and moving it off the burner before it whistled.

Mary's friend liked my letter to Lily, and said that I was incredible.

16-09-23

Beverly said, "Apparently you made Evan write a letter the other day, and something good happened because of that." He hasn't said a word about it, which I kind of miss. He was rude to his teacher, and she made him leave class. I suggested that he hand deliver a written apology. I don't know what he wrote, or how she responded.

Beth invited me to come to the bluff to watch the sun set with her and Morgan, as Morgan wanted to use it as an indicator of what time of day she would like to set the wedding. Naturally, yesterday was the one day the office ran late with payroll, but I was able to get it submitted in the nick of time and still meet them near the Fairhope pier. Then we went and had a little supper together.

Brittany sent some of the older grandbaby girls a group text re: all of them coming to Goodtimes.

16-09-21

Got to have a little bit of coffee with Beth.

Jashuna resigned, which relieves me of an on-going discipline problem, as well as trying to figure out how to support this huge staff with the revenue we are currently turning.

The household bookkeeping has been tended to and is current. I made it through all of my home administrative duties yesterday, at least the ones that were on the books when I started. I still need to call the dentist. There is always something, but I feel differently, now that it is at a manageable level.

My Wonderland duties are caught up, and also at a manageable level. I could hyperventilate, go back to the same-o, same-o in response to Jashuna's resignation, but I am not. We're going to take a different approach here. I'm going to hold course on my three days off. I will do as much as I can do in ten hours, but no more.

Last night, when I was telling Tyler how excited I was to be caught up, he said, "If there's anything I can do to help you, I will." I thought that was sweet. He had done all of his homework, etc., and I told him that his having done that was a bigger help than he realized.

Shawn told me that he had brought his English grade up by taking a test and turning in one of his bell-ringers.

Shawn and Tyler made a birthday cake for Chris.

Annette sent me a text --- pics up of Skyler's homecoming --- Sky letting her know at the last minute that she wanted to go...

September 19, 2016

Well, for starters, the household bookkeeping is caught up. I have ten household administrative duties I have to handle, but the basic bookkeeping is current, and I haven't been able to say that, to feel that, since last April.

Barry and I worked on the pottery barn and it is much more pleasant place to be. We got off the property and went to Bass Pro to look for a backpack for his Appalachian Trail hike. We went to the Dragonfly festival. It was massively overrated, but I don't have to wonder now. We were both pretty happy just to be off gallivanting together.

We went over to Beth's last night since Rodney left this morning for his new job in Dallas. It isn't a permanent position --- most likely will last six or eight months, but should be very good for them financially.

We got to see Zak and Vivian, but missed Morgan. We got to see Beverly, and JA and Angela. We missed Kennedy there, but she did come out to see us at the house, and she and John and Barry and I had a good visit. Laughed a lot. Kennedy brought me over to Phew! to see a spider that was busy weaving its web. It was a big-bellied spider!

Beth and Beverly are going to go with me to Green Drinks.

Beverly and I are going to try to take an extended walk Wednesday.

Even Wonderland is in really good shape. At least at my desk. I think Virginia's may be overwhelmed, but I don't know for sure.

I just haven't had a week like this in years, where Wonderland and household were at manageable levels, and I could do some of the other things that I want to do.

Barry really liked the open face roast beef sandwich I made for c lunch.

My boy. I'm crazy proud of you Zak Brown!
I do not recall the last time you asked me for gas money. I do not recall the last time other than Christmas that you asked for clothing, and that was mostly under pressure. I also do not recall the last time you asked me to feed you. You're all grown up...
Keep killing it Mr. Brown. This world is yours!
I love you way more than Vivian

16-09-14

No matter how crazy my day is, every time I talk to Daddy I feel happier.

I woke up at 4, which I'm not all that happy about, but I did get over here before 8, which is something that hasn't happened for a long time.

I got in some volunteer time yesterday. I did some research for MCEI, and I did some for the CAC. About two hours total, I think. I know it isn't four or five hours, but it was two, and that's a step in a happy direction.

Today is my writing day and I'm too far behind on household bookkeeping to claim it all, but I'm going to claim some of it.

Barry said he liked my little word table.

Evan called me about a situation at school. (His teacher asked him to go get something for her from the lunch room. A fellow student called him at work to say that the teacher had told her Evan had kept some of her change.) He said the things he was thinking probably weren't the things he ought to say, and that I might have some suggestions on how to handle it.

Barry is getting excited about the hiking trip he's planning with Beverly.

16-09-13

Some days, this computer links right up, and other days it really wants to stall that process. It took a longer minute today than yesterday, but certainly shorter than some other days.

The pool is clear and I did remember to dump the chlorine, so I should be good for tomorrow.

My doctor's appointment went pretty well.

Had a really great conversation with Don Mosely yesterday. He has taken over Mark Webster's position, and came to see us where we worked. I don't think he is really reaching out to all of the former board members, so that's interesting. I wonder if he would have been here if we hadn't sent our donation, At any rate, he has also worked with Family Promise, so I feel better about doing that again this year. It was something that we seemed to enjoy doing as a family.

He said, "they really only reached out to the Math and Science," and said, "and that really annoyed me." or some version of that. I talked about the value of giving kids a venue for expressing their ideas and how it may help them get through those critical years of middle school and high school. When he left, I shook his hand, and said that I knew what was most important to me might have to wait a minute, but ... and he said, "you have my commitment on that," and it sounded more like a commitment that would come from someone who served on the board of Family Promise for three years, as he did, than from someone making a promise to secure support. So this part of my life is revving back up again, and if I can just hold Wonderland in its place, and if I can just get the boys on board with doing the things that are on the list so that I can quit nagging and being frustrated, and if I can just get caught up on the family bookkeeping and administration duties, I think I can be in pretty good shape.

I like the way they are reorganizing the board, since the old way didn't have a real peg or home for me.

Dr. Webster seemed to think that I'm in pretty good shape, so that's good too.

oday as I was feeding a patient I asked him, "would you like more oatmeal, Mr. Walker?" He said "an egg roll?!?" I giggled. "No, Mr. Walker. I asked of you wanted more oatmeal!" Seriously my fave patient ever. Actually, my only patient ever but still.. you get the picture. And I had to post this pic because I dropped greasy pizza on these scrubs and will never be able to wear them again. I wish I didn't eat like a 4 year old!!!! Life is only temporary but pizza stains are forever 😄

16-09-12

This computer logged in online, to the home network, just about as quickly as it used to. That's promising. We'll see if it does better than it did on my hotspot, because it kept on freezing up there.

Second Sunday Supper was last night, and almost everyone was there. We were missing Amber, Kim and Willo. I enjoyed watching the kids as they arrived, greeting each other, heading for the back yard or the game table to enjoy each other's company.

We celebrated our September birthdays, and Josh was able to be with us this time, so that was fun. We also celebrated Morgan and Brandon's engagement. "What are we going to sing to them?" someone asked. So, we didn't sing. I spoke. Just told them that we were doing this in our usual haphazard way, but wanted them to know that we are happy for them, that we are happy about this, that we loved them both --- and Brandon's face --- just looked like he was happy in the moment, happy to hear the words, in real life. Congratulations on Facebook are good, and short congratulatory words in person are good, but a banner and streamers and a little official congratulations --- that seemed to have an important place, too. I'll have to remember that.

Kennedy and John W got here early to help me get ready and decorate and Brittany and Beverly and Angela. Tori came but when she went to check on her dad, who was working on Beverly's jeep in the shop, he was bleeding, and she said she'd decided he needed someone to watch over him. I can't remember what she told us he said about his cut, but she said she thought, "Aw, you need a buddy."

Andrew, John and Rodney, sitting at the table, talking about Dragon Con.

Some snippets of agreement conversation at the big kid table re: the Dakota Access Pipeline.

I asked Barry to make the beans, and he did, and they were a hit.

I used Crazy Jane's Mixed Up Pepper in the macaroni and cheese, and I really liked that.

Skyler to Noah, as she left, "Be good in school!"

Annette, coming up behind me as I was at the counter, hugging me, telling me how excited she is about the Purple Rain tickets, "But thing I'm most excited about is hanging out with you guys."

Brittany's planning on get a double masters --- Business, and Coastal Engineering. Her engineering professor can not only get the Coastal Engineering master funded, she can arrange for Brittany to be paid while she's working on the project.

Chris helped JA get Beverly's jeep fixed.

Jaden came to his first official (unless you count the Alabama game at Beth's house) family function. Lots of cuddling and pictures. Beverly took him immediately, and held him until Chelsea was through eating, and then got her own supper. My camera has disappeared, so Brittany took pictures on her phone.

Friday night, Barry and I went to a Black Jacket Symphony "Hotel California," with Beth and Rodney. They'd gotten tickets for us and his mom, and his aunt Susie and Uncle Jerry. So, we all went to supper together and then the concert, and had a a good time.

Beverly, re: Chelsea, after they'd watched the game together at Beth's house: "She handled us all really well. I was really impressed."

16-09-09

Shawn came in to my office last night and sat down and we talked for about half an hour, maybe longer, It was a fun visit.

Tyler went to the bee club meeting with Barry. Barry said Tyler seemed be paying close attention.

Evan and Chelsea and Jaden came for dinner last night. Evan is caught up on the class hours that he missed. Barry and I got to hold Jaden.

Shawn said that when Destiny called in the night, upset about the surgery she has to have, he was able to give her an uplift. He said he felt like a life coach, really good about himself. He said he's been looking for jobs online.

I got enough done out in the office that I don't have to go back out there today at all. The only thing I need to do is run the Daily Booked Loads Report for Monday, and I really could do that most any time this weekend. So, theoretically, this is "Fitness Friday." It is interrupted by laundry, but I'm going to put my hiking shoes on after lunch.
